The community can learn more about how it can support the Murfreesboro Salvation Army's mission during the nonprofit's next Lunch and Learn, a monthly program hosted at the local headquarters.

Open to the public, the next hourlong "Beyond the Bells" program will be held at noon Thursday, June 25, at The Salvation Army's Center of Hope facility, located at 1137 W. Main St. just off Highway 99. Attendees will get a snapshot of the programs and a tour of the facility.

John Mitchell, development director for the local Salvation Army, calls the luncheon "Beyond the Bells" because its goal is to help the community better understand all of the programs and services that The Salvation Army provides in Rutherford and Cannon counties year-round, not just at Christmastime through its Angel Tree program and bell-ringing Red Kettle campaign.

As examples, Mitchell noted that adults going through the nonprofit's Life Recovery Program have an 80 percent success rate in finding permanent housing, compared to a national average of 40 percent. And that The Salvation Army prepared and served more than 25,000 nutritious meals last year.

Led by Lt. Andy and Capt. Monica Seiler, the Christian-based organization celebrated 20 years of service to the local community last year.

"The Seilers and TSA staff have been doing many great things," Mitchell said. "I encourage folks to come to a Lunch and Learn to see firsthand."
