The homeless population in Rutherford County increased 71-percent in the four-years between 2012 and 2016.

Major Melissa Irvin with the Salvation Army tells NewsRadio WGNS they've repurposed some space at the Center of Hope at the corner of New Salem and West Main to accomodate more of those in need. And for the first time, that includes women...


Irvin says they've been taking more and more phone calls from those seeking shelter and they were constantly full...


During the homeless population count this year, 243 individuals were identified here in Rutherford County.
