SB: Oakland Holds Off Smyrna

May 05, 2014 at 10:27 pm by bryan

Oakland scored four runs in the forth inning and held off Smyrna 4-3 to advance to the District 7-AAA Softball Tournament championship game. Pinch hitter Michelle Williams, a freshman, came to bat in the fourth with the bases loaded, in a tie game. She delivered a three-run triple that gave Oakland a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Smyrna pecked away at it, scoring one run in both the fifth and sixth, but Oakland's Lacy Rinus retired the side in the seventh for the win. The Lady Patriots will await Tuesday's loser's bracket results to find out who they'll play for the title Wednesday at 6pm. Smyrna, the regular season champion, will play the winner of Riverdale vs. Siegel game Tuesday. The Lady Bulldogs are guaranteed a region berth even if they don't make the championship game.

Tuesday on WGNS, Jon Dinkins will have Siegel vs. Oakland baseball. A trip to the district title game and a region berth are on the line in that game. Tune in at 5:55pm here on WGNS.
