Wednesday Animal Rescue Corps (ARC), a national non-profit headquartered in Washington, D.C., performed its second rescue operation in Tennessee in three days. Working with New Leash on Life of Lebanon, ARC assisted the Lebanon Department of Public Safety today in the rescue of 10 dogs found living in neglectful conditions at a trailer park in Lebanon, TN. All of the animals were surrendered by the property owner.

Ten dogs of a variety of small breeds were found living in extreme filth, surrounded by garbage and feces, with inadequate shelter and no food or water. Seven dogs were chained to trees in deep mud and three were found in a dilapidated trailer. Several medical conditions were identified in the dogs, including dermatitis on their paws from having no relief from the wet, muddy ground, internal and external parasites, and eye conditions. All of the dogs were underweight and one was extremely matted.

"What we accomplished together today is a perfect example of local government taking advantage of resources they have available to address animal neglect and cruelty in their community," said Animal Rescue Corps President Scotlund Haisley. "I applaud the City of Lebanon for putting their compassion into action."

Lebanon City Animal Control, which reports to the Lebanon Department of Public Safety, received an anonymous tip about these dogs and did not hesitate to respond.

"We take cases animal neglect very seriously in Lebanon and we're addressing the issues and the ordinances to enforce them," said Director of the Lebanon Department of Public Safety Mike Justice.

ARC safely removed the animals from the property and transported them to an emergency shelter set up by ARC for this rescue, dubbed Operation Spring Three. Each animal will receive a thorough veterinary exam, appropriate vaccinations, and any necessary medical treatment. ARC will provide daily care until the dogs are placed with approved shelter and rescue organizations around the country that will ultimately adopt them into loving homes.

Animal Rescue Corps performed Operation Spring Three in conjunction with New Leash on Life of Middle Tennessee in Lebanon and the Lebanon Department of Public Safety.

Animal Rescue Corps was in Manchester, TN on Sunday assisting the Coffee County Sheriff's Office in the rescue of 85 dogs and 4 cats from a hoarding situation. These animals are also being housed at the ARC emergency shelter and have received veterinary exams and medical grooming to offer them relief from the shocking physical effects of their formally deplorable living conditions, which included extreme matting, emaciation, urine burns, and several other emergency medical conditions. The Manchester rescue was dubbed Operation Midnight Run because ARC was about an hour south of Chicago in Kankakee, IL, just last week on another operation and drove through the night to assist Coffee County on April 12.
