A little more than two weeks out of a stem cell transplant to cure his cancer Bill Ketron has his sights set on attending the MTSU-Vanderbilt football game.

Murfreesboro Post writer Sam Stockard spoke to the 62-year old state senator, who says he gains a little strength each day after undergoing the procedure in late August.

Ketron, a Murfreesboro Republican in his fourth term serving the 13th District, announced in November 2014 he would undergo cancer treatment after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

The county's senior senator said the cancer was found in November after he noticed a small lump in his neck. During the 2015 legislative session, he took small periods away from General Assembly duties for chemotherapy, but continued to struggle against the debilitating disease.

Hoping to overcome the cancer once and for all, Ketron opted for the stem cell transplant, an effort to introduce healthy cells to his body. He went through six days of chemotherapy to weaken his immune system before having the stem cell transplant.

Ketron says he's taking it "one day at a time" with daily trips to Nashville for blood work. His ultimate plan is to return to the 2016 session of the General Assembly.
