(NASHVILLE) State Senator Shane Reeves (R-Murfreesboro) has been appointed Chairman of the Senate State and Local Government Committee's Oversight Subcommittee. The appointment of the new subcommittee was made by Chairman Steven Dickerson (R-Nashville) as the General Assembly convened the 2020 legislative session this week.

"I am looking forward to working with Chairman Reeves in his new capacity as he continues to assure our state government is the most efficient and responsive," said Chairman Dickerson. "This oversight is of tremendous importance to our committee to ensure that we have all the information that we need in order to make the most effective public policy decisions for Tennesseans."

The committee will review reports submitted from various agencies under their purview, beginning next week with the State Comptroller, the Alcoholic Beverage Commission, Board of Parole and Department of Correction. They will also investigate topics of interest on emerging issues and serve as the committee's summer study group.

"I appreciate the opportunity to serve in the capacity and the confidence placed in me by Chairman Dickerson," said Sen. Reeves. "Our committee has a heavy workload ahead of us this year and I look forward to working with my colleagues to meet the challenges ahead."

The Senate State and Local Government Committee has the responsibility of considering all measures dealing state and local governments in general, including utility districts, employees, ordinances, boundary lines, veterans' affairs, penal and correctional institutions, alcoholic beverages and election laws.
