On Monday November 14, 2016 Senator Bill Ketron will be presented with the Tennessee 811 "Legislator of the Year" award. This award will be presented at 9:00 am Monday at the offices of the Tennessee Association of Utility Districts. They are located at 840 Commercial Court in Murfreesboro.

Senator Ketron tirelessly supported the efforts to strengthen the existing state law TCA 65-31 (TN Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act). The amendments to the legislation will help better protect underground utilities.

State law requires anyone planning to dig in Tennessee contact 811 prior to digging to have underground utilities located. Striking a single line can cause injury, repair costs, fines and inconvenient outages. Every project no matter how large or small requires contacting 811 by phone or by going to the website.

The call is free and there is no charge for utilities to come out and locate their underground facilities. Tennessee 811 is a not-for-profit organization serving the entire state of Tennessee.
