Two people were seriously hurt in an accident involving a car and semi on Joe B. Jackson at South Church Street.

It happened Monday morning around 10:30. Two Lifeflight air ambulances were dispatched. The one from Murfreesboro Airport took one of the victims to Vanderbilt. The other was taken by ambulance to Vandy, since it was first to the scene, and arrived before the second Lifeflight from Nashville.

Sgt. Kyle Evans of Murfreesboro Police tells NewsRadio WGNS the car was traveling north on Church Street and the semi-truck was turning left from Joe B. Jackson onto Church Street to go south. Witnesses stated the car ran the red light, striking the tractor-trailer. The car became wedged under the trailer of the semi.

Evans says they're investigating the crash and whether alcohol or distracted driving were factors.

A portion of South Church Street is closed to traffic for several hours while the crash is being investigated by the Fatal Accident Crash Team.
