During a Sunday morning event at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro, a registered sex offender was arrested for violating the sex offender registry rules. Officer Ogg with the MPD wrote in a report, "Upon arrival I noticed a group of people serving breakfast to homeless and people in need." The report further suggested that suspect Jonathan Ferrell, who is homeless himself, was violating offender rules by being in a park. As a result, he was taken to jail and charged with "Violation of the Sex Offender Registry."

In 2010, the 37-year old was convicted on a charge of "Criminal attempt to commit aggravated battery." The offender registry further listed his address as Nashville, even though he was located in Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro. His classification is also listed as "Violent."
