Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold is in a Kentucky jail, being detained by the federal government after his bond was revoked. He was indicted earlier this year on 14-counts surrounding the investigation into JailCigs. His bond was revoked Wednesday after a U.S. Magistrate Alistair Newbern heard what she called "sufficient evidence" that he intentionally harassed his wife, Megan Arnold, after an alleged Labor Day night assault.

She added Arnold didn't report it to his probation officer after the alleged incident. In addition, Newbern said she was concerned that as long as he was in office, Arnold would continue to abuse his power. She also said had Arnold chosen to resign his position, she would not have ordered his bond revoked. Arnold was taken away in handcuffs by U.S. Marshals around 10:30 Wednesday morning to Leitchfield, Kentucky for lockup in the Grayson County Detention Center, where he will be kept separate from other inmates.

The federal government has contracts to house its prisoners at several closer facilities, but reliable sources indicate those Tennessee counties chose not to accept the prisoner.

In fact, NewsChannel5 is reporting the sheriff may be "strongly considering" resigning from office, if it would mean his release from jail before his federal trial next year.

Meanwhile, several county commissioners have continued their call for his resignation. County Commissioner Pettus Read, who is vice-chairman of the Public Safety Committee, calls the whole sitaution an "embarrassment..."

In the interim, Deputy Chief Randy Garrett is running the day-to-day operations of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office.
