Shots fired at a Nashville Synagogue on Monday

Shots rang out on Monday morning at a Nashville area Synagogue around 10:15. The incident is under investigation by the Nashville Metro Police Department. The incident occurred in the West End area.

Detectives are continuing to investigate this morning's discovery of a bullet strike in a metal window frame at the front of West End Synagogue. The bullet was recovered and is being analyzed by ballistic experts.

A member of the synagogue's maintenance staff was outdoors at the side of the facility at 8:30 a.m. today when he reported hearing a loud pop. When he walked around to the front of the building a few minutes later, he discovered a hole in the metal window frame. Further examination of the hole revealed it was caused by a bullet. It has not been determined exactly from where the shot was fired.

The police department has been in contact with the FBI and TBI. Jewish institutions in Nashville and the region are receiving enhanced law enforcement attention.
