The Lady Stars faced elimination all day Thursday and things went their way until the final strike in game two. They fell to defending state champion Dickson County 5-4 after defeating Houston 11-nothing the game prior. With Siegel up 4-2 in the final frame, the Lady Cougars exploded for four hits and three runs to take a 5-4 lead. Second baseman Ashley Scott faced a full count and with her team down to their last strike, hit a single allowing the tying run to score. They pushed another across and Siegel couldn't answer in the bottom of the seventh for the final score. The Lady Stars, in the state tournament for only the second time in school history and the first since 2009, finish the season 35-and-8 and in the final four.

The season also drew to a close the 68th year of prep sports coverage on NewsRadio WGNS. This year, Bryan Barrett and Jon Dinkins broadcast 167 prep games and shows. They were joined on the coaches show by Monte Hale, Jr. throughout the year. We thank the many sponsors who made this another overwhelmingly successful season of broadcasting the accomplishments of this area's high school student athletes. The 69th season of prep coverage is a little over three-months away!
