Smith County man allegedly kidnaps victim and drives to Murfreesboro

A 25 year old Smith County man has been arrested in Murfreesboro and charged with kidnapping.

Cody Alan Brown reportedly asked an acquaintance for a ride to a homeless shelter in Cookville, Tennessee while in Carthage. While on route to the shelter, Brown became paranoid, concerned that his friend was a confidential informant, according to the victim.

The police report shows that the night for Brown started with him allegedly injecting methamphetamine's while in Carthage, Tennessee. From there, the paranoia started soon after he got in the car with the acquaintance.

The report went on to state that Brown took the victims cellphone and threw it out the window. He then took the car stereo out while thinking there was a recording device in it. The victim said that Brown then made his way to the drivers seat when they pulled over and that was when the victim got into the passenger seat to stay with his vehicle.

The victim told Murfreesboro Police that Brown drove for hours even though he plead for him to stop and let him out. The victim told police he even told the suspect that he was having a medical emergency and needed help, but Brown still refused to stop. Brown was even said to have run stop signs and red lights to avoid stopping. The suspect eventually ended up driving to Murfreesboro where he pulled over in a CVS parking lot and the victim jumped out to call for help inside the pharmacy.

Police arrived at the Murfreesboro address of CVS and Brown, who was found to be standing in the parking lot, immediately pointed at the car and stated that he did not steal it. After Brown was questioned and the victim interviewed, Brown was charged with not only kidnapping, but also simple possession of a schedule six drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.
