The circumstances surrounding Saturday night's wounding of a 23-year-old man near the intersection of 2nd Avenue North and Broadway remain unclear.
Kyle Freeman of Smyrna was walking west on Broadway at 10 p.m. when he felt pain in his left upper back. He continued walking to the next block before he and his friends stopped and notified police that he had been shot. Freeman was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of a non-life threatening wound.
Despite the crowd downtown, no one reported seeing a person with a gun. It is unclear from where the weapon was fired.
Central Precinct detectives are continuing to investigate this matter. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
