Soggy Start to July

An uncharacteristic start to July brought heavy rainfall to Rutherford County and Middle Tennessee. Locally, four-inches of rainfall was common from the 4th of July through yesterday (Sunday). Portions of eastern Rutherford County recorded nearly seven-inches of rain, the most reported here by National Weather Service monitoring stations. Bedford and Smith Counties had nearly 10-inches of rain over the same period. To put the heavy rainfall event into perspective, we typically receive only half of this amount for the whole month of July. Good news is the system that brought the heavy rain has moved out of the area, giving us a chance to dry out. With that, the heat and humidity will be back. Temperatures are expected to be near 90 with afternoon showers and storms for the week. A full look at the WGNS Weather Eye forecast is coming up.
