Wednesday, May 24, 2017 8:31 pm
Wednesday saw one local team eliminated in Spring Fling baseball and another battle for an extra inning win to stay alive.
STEWARTS CREEK 4, HOUSTON 1 (12-INNINGS)
Tied at 1-1, Stewarts Creek and Houston battled to stay alive in the AAA Spring Fling Baseball State Tournament.
The Red Hawks scored three runs in the top of the 12th inning and pulled out a 4-1 win. Daniel Freeman, who threw over 110 pitches in the game, came up with a leadoff single in the 12th, driving in two runs. They'd tack on another and get the win.
Earlier in the day, Jefferson County defeated Stewarts Creek 3-0 to push the Red Hawks to the loser's bracket.
Stewarts Creek will again play Jefferson County at 2pm Thursday at Oakland. The Red Hawks must win two games to get to the state title game.
Matthew Sawyer of the Murfreesboro Post talked to the Red Hawks head coach Mike Bartlett about the task ahead with Jefferson County Thursday...
NewsRadio WGNS will be there to broadcast the game with Jon Dinkins and Bryan Barrett on State Farm Prep Sports.
KINGSPORT DOBYNS-BENNETT 4, BLACKMAN 3
Blackman got down 3-0 early against Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett. A three run homer by D.J. Wright tied the game. And that's the way it stayed until the 6th.
That's when Indians catcher Logan Hullette stole home to score the go ahead run. Dobyns-Bennett ended the Blaze season with the 4-3 win.
Blackman earlier in the day were defeated 6-2 by Brentwood, who had a grand slam home run to break a 2-2 tie in the 7th.
Blackman, in their second ever state tournament appearance, ended the season at 29-12.
CPA 7, CENTRAL MAGNET 1
CPA scored three runs in the fifth and break open a 1-1 game with Central Magnet.
Chris Johnson took the loss for Central Magnet. He pitched six innings, allowing four runs, seven hits, and striking out nine.
With Central's 5-1 loss to Covington earlier in the day, the Tigers were eliminated from Spring Fling play. Their season ends with a 31-13 mark.
