(MURFREESBORO) The Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation's "12th Annual Rutherford Society Gala" was held Saturday (1/19/2019) night in the ballroom of the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center.
The Physician Champion Award went to Dr. Dunk Eastham, and the Dr. Liz Rhea Philanthropist Award was present to Pallie and David Jones.
Dr. Jim Boerner and his wife Sydney were named co-chairs of St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital's Capital Campaign. The theme is "Time To Excell".
WGNS talked to the Boerner's about how the funds would be used . . .
Presently, three additional floors and 72 beds are being added to the west patient tower of the hospital. That totals an additional 60,000 square feet.
The vertical expansion will include finishing the sixth and seventh floors for immediate use, while the eighth floor will be shelled in for future expansion, when needed. The expansion also includes a two-story addition with ground level support space, storage space and four additional operation rooms on the second floor.
The expansion project is in partnership with Gresham Smith and Partners and Turner Construction and is expected to be completed by mid-year 2020.
A delicious dinner, the awards and then the musicof British Pianist Derek Paravicini. He was born at 26-weeks and weighed just over a pound. Sadly, the oxygen that kept him alive, also made Derek blind. He is described as being a sightless, autistic savant and musical prodigy. He has appeared on CBS' "60 Minutes", nationwide broadcasts in Britain, Germany, Japan, Australia. In addition, Derek has performed twice in Buckingham Palace and once in Arizona for Muhamad Ali.
