In 2012, there were 76 rapes reported in Rutherford County. In the city limits of Murfreesboro, there were 59 rapes reported in 2012. Most people would agree, rape is the most invasive and personally debilitating crime that is reported in Tennessee. Rape has long lasting and emotionally disturbing results on a victim’s life. While little can be done to change the way a victim may feel, something is being done to ensure that the rapist is properly caught.

A doctor in Clarksville who is also a Senator in Tennessee has introduced a new bill that would benefit victims of rape. Sen. Mark Green, (R-Clarksville) has introduced a bill which would extend the period of time a rapist could be charged with the crime of rape. Currently, the statute of limitations for rape in Tennessee expires in 8 to 15 years, depending on the circumstances.  The passage of his bill extends the statute of limitations indefinitely.
