Stewarts Creek Baseball in the State Title Game

Two thrilling wins for Stewarts Creek and they punch a ticket to the Class AAA Baseball State Championship game.

GAME 2: STEWARTS CREEK 11, JEFFERSON CO. 1 (6)

Needing two wins over Jefferson County Thursday, the Red Hawks defeated the Patriots 5-3 in game one to force a winner take all bracket championship, which took eight innings. Tied 3-3 going into the extra frame, Daniel Freeman led off with a double. An Austin Steel double scored the go ahead run. They got some insurance on a Cory Perkins single, which allowed Steel to steal home. It gave Stewarts Creek a 5-3 win.

In forcing the "if necessary" game, pitching became the question mark. Junior Aaron Moriarty answered that question giving up only one run on five hits and eight strikeouts. And the Red Hawk offense came alive with 11 runs on 11 hits, including two two-run home runs by Austin Steel and this solo homer by Daniel Freeman...

Stewarts Creek will play Brentwood, the team that came out of the Siegel bracket, at 5pm Friday for the state championship. Jon Dinkins and Bryan Barrett will be at MTSU's Reese Smith Jr. Field for the broadcast of State Farm Prep Baseball at 4:45pm airtime here on NewsRadio WGNS.
