You may know someone who has recently fallen ill with a stomach bug. State health officials say an outbreak of stomach illnesses in Middle Tennessee is due to a norovirus. Tennessee Department of Health spokeswoman Shelley Walker said in an email to The Tennessean that more than 100 people in Greenbrier have reported becoming ill, though not all of those are confirmed as norovirus.

Norovirus infection is characterized by nausea, forceful vomiting, watery diarrhea, and abdominal pain, and in some cases, loss of taste. General exhaustion, weakness, muscle aches, headache, coughs, and low-grade fever may occur.
