Stones River Center cares for 80 Intellectually Disabled adults, with 10 group homes and a day program site in the Murfreesboro area. September 7-13, 2014 is Direct Support Professionals Week. What is a Direct Support Professional? They are the hardworking, caring, loving people who work directly with people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities. They support them in all aspects of life, including their activities of daily living, and assist with getting them involved at home, work, school, church, and other places throughout the community.

Direct Support Professional Recognition Week is part of the American Network of Community Options and Resources' (ANCOR) National Advocacy Campaign. ANCOR's mission is to enhance the lives of all people with disabilities who rely on long-term supports and services by obtaining the resources to recruit, train and retain a highly qualified and sustainable workforce. This is the seventh consecutive year the U.S.. Senate has approved a resolution designating National Direct Support Recognition Week which begins this year on September 7. Governor Bill Haslam has also signed a state proclamation to recognize this week in Tennessee.

Many long term residents of Murfreesboro may remember the Louisa Developmental Center on Highland Avenue across from the previous site of MTMC. The name changed to Stones River Center in the early 90's, but many individuals and staff remain with the company even though several years have passed. "We have some very hardworking, dedicated Direct Support Professionals at Stones River Center that truly care about our individuals." states Lisa Izzi, Administrator of Stones River Center. "Our staff serves an often times thankless job, but they truly represent the heart of what we do."

Stones River Center's Administrative offices and Day Program is located at 3350 Memorial Blvd, Murfreesboro, TN 37129. As a non-profit organization, donations and volunteers are always needed and welcomed.
