Stray bullet strikes van in Murfreesboro yard of home where children were playing

A Rutherford County man was cited for reckless endangerment after a bullet he fired from a Taurus .38 caliber handgun hit a nearby van parked at a home that was in a neighborhood within the city limits of Murfreesboro. . The bullet was allegedly fired by 21-year old Jared Chilton, who told authorities that he had shot his gun on the property in question numerous times. The only problem is that this time it went over his target and into a residential area where a family was celebrating the birthday of a 3-year old child. We are told that children were outside in the yard playing when the bullet hit the van. Luckily, no one was injured in the mishap.

While the family will not be pursuing charges, the Sheriff’s Department is… Chilton will have to appear in court on April the 9th to face the single reckless endangerment charge.
