Can I pay in GOLD?

A man who entered the Rutherford County Register of Deed’s office in Murfreesboro on Tuesday to record his documents of changing his name, left upset. The reason… Register of Deed’s Heather Dawbarn told him he could not pay in gold or silver.

According to an official M-P-D Incident Report, the man tried to pay in gold and/or silver. Dawbarn informed the subject that they only accepted cash or check. According to the report, “She stated he demanded she take the gold or silver, which he never produced.” Two more customers walked in while the man was making his demand and he quickly calmed himself and left.

Dawbarn filed a report because employees in the office felt intimidated by the incident. At this point, nothing more has occurred.
