A 24-year old Mt. Juliet man bonded out of jail on Monday after he allegedly used his SUV to run over an acquaintance on Saturday afternoon. Murfreesboro Police report that when they got to the scene of the incident, they found 25-year old Bradley Benefield lying in the street. The report states that Benefield had road rash all over his upper torso and legs and had to be transported to the hospital for treatment.
Two witnesses told officers that Benefield was in the road waving his hands in the air trying to flag down Clinton Shaver. Benefield, who was alert and conscious after the mishap, told police that Shaver owed him money. The report suggests that Shaver sped up as he neared Benefield prior to allegedly striking him on Lynch Drive. One officer wrote in the report, “Mr. Benefield was thrown into the air and hit the concrete and rolled in front of 2035 Lynch Drive.”
The Murfreesboro Police Department quickly notified Mt. Juliet Police to be on the lookout for the blue SUV because Shaver was said to live in Wilson County. A day later Shaver was located and apprehended. The suspect was charged with aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident involving bodily injury.
