For the 4th time, a Murfreesboro man has been charged with DUI. 28-year old Dustin Martin was arrested on Old Fort Parkway after he allegedly fled the scene of an accident at the St. Andrews Drive intersection near Kohl's Department Store. The incident was witnessed by a bystander who called the authorities while following Martin.
Police made contact with Martin in the driveway of a home on Highway 96. According to an arrest report, "Mr. Martin stated he was driving with his kids, a 4-year old and a 6-year old, heading to Kids Castle." The wreck happened when he claims a car "cut him off causing him to strike the car." After the wreck Martin indicated he fled the scene because he did not have a valid license or insurance.
Police wrote in a report that Martin had slurred speech, glossy eyes and was lethargic. After failing a field sobriety test, he was arrested. Dispatch quickly advised that Martin had been convicted on three prior occasions with DUI and driving on a suspended license charges. Therefore, he was charged for the 4th time with each. He was also charged with reckless endangerment.
As of Christmas Eve (morning), Martin remained behind bars, unable to post bond. He will appear in court this March.
