Taxes done for free in Murfreesboro and Smyrna

The United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties is hosting a ribbon cutting, presented by the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, to mark the beginning of its 2016 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

The ribbon cutting will be on Friday at 11 AM at the United Way office at 3050 Medical Center Parkway in Murfreesboro.

VITA is a service providing free tax preparation to individuals with an annual household income of less than $62,000. Last year, 724 tax returns were filed through the VITA program.

Taxes will be prepared for free in both Murfreesboro and Smyrna.

VITA Site locations include:

Patterson Park Community Center

• Saturdays- 9:00 am- 1:00 pm
• Tuesdays- 2:00- 6:00 pm
• Thursdays- 2:00- 6:00 pm
• Fridays- 2:00- 6:00 pm

Smyrna Assembly Hall

• Tuesdays- 9:00 am- 1:00 pm
• Wednesdays- 2:00- 6:00 pm
• Thursdays- 9:00 am- 1:00 pm

VITA sites will be closed March 25th and 26th for Good Friday and Easter.
