Master Teague waited his time last year as a back-up running back behind Taeler Dowdy.
It's now his time and the Blackman junior showed last Friday night he is ready to assume the role.
Teague rushed for more than 140 yards in less than a half, and the Blaze defeated Stewarts Creek 24-7 in the Rutherford County Jamboree at Blackman High.
"I think our team did a lot better than we did last year," said Teague, referring to the Blaze losing to Stewarts Creek in the jamboree. "We've got a long way to go, and we hope to get better the next few weeks. I'm ready to, but I just have to make sure I'm in good enough shape to play four quarters if my team needs me."
Blackman wasted little time scoring as Teague went in from two yards out to give the Blaze a 7-0 lead with 9:46 left in the first quarter. His 40-yard burst set up the score.
Stewarts Creek answered right back when it drove 70 yards, culminated by Tre Bailliez's 12-yard run on an option play.
"I thought ones on ones they competed with us," said Blackman coach David Watson. "They flew around and matched up and answered with a nice drive. Overall, we have more depth and were able to wear them down and make some plays.
"We'll have to look at the film. It was a good dress rehearsal. I thought logistic wise we needed to communicate better on the sidelines. Our headsets weren't working right. What we've got to do now is get ready for McCallie in two weeks."
Added Stewarts Creek coach David Martin: "We'll be fine. We win in knowing that we had to get our No. 2s out there, and some of them were star struck. But we needed to get them under the lights and out there."
Oakland kicker Thomas Burks booted a 46-yard field goal with 9:56 left in the second quarter, and Teague added an 81-yard TD burst to give the Blaze a 17-7 lead. Blackman scored another touchdown with 11.2 seconds remaining.
Blackman will not open the season this Friday, and will play at McCallie on Aug. 26. Stewarts Creek opens the season Friday at Nashville Overton.
