VERBATIM:

At around 5:20 Tuesday evening Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department, Murfreesboro Police Department, and Rutherford County EMS responded to another call at the Manson Pike Trailhead.Murfreesboro Police spokesman Sgt. Kyle Evans tells WGNS News Patton jumped into the river and may have struck a submerged object. He was pulled from the water by witnesses who saw him floating down the river. He was taken to the Middle Tennessee Medical Center ER and pronounced dead. Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Public Information Officer Ashley McDonald says it took a group effort to board the victim for transport because the victim was located off the greenway in a muddy and slippery area. Evans says no foul play is suspected, but the death is still under investigation. McDonald adds at least one MFRD Firefighter and one MPD Officer were injured during this incident.
