Tennessee Democratic Party Chair Mary Mancini has released the following statement ahead of President Barack Obama's visit to Nashville:
"Tennessee Democrats are delighted that President Obama has chosen the Madison-area of Nashville to talk about the highly-successful Affordable Care Act and that his work to give access to affordable health care for all is not quite done yet. Since the ACA became law five years ago, 16 million more Americans have health care today. It's a exciting that the President chose to come here after the Supreme Court decided last week to allow 6.4 million Americans to continue to have access to affordable healthcare, including 200,000 Tennesseans who can continue to have affordable coverage through the federal exchange.
After the land's highest court announced the ruling on King v. Burwell, Democrats convened to urge the Governor and Republican leaders to call for another special session to pass Insure Tennessee so 280,000 other hardworking Tennesseans can have access affordable health care.
We feel strongly about this issue because Democrats are working to build a Tennessee that offers a better quality of life for everyone who works and lives in this state.
The president's visit along with the Supreme Court's ruling highlights the importance of access to affordable health care for everyone. It's time for Tennessee Republicans to vote to pass Insure Tennessee because it saves lives, keeps our hospitals open and improves the economy."
