Tennessee Democratic Party Chair Mary Mancini released the following statement after the Tennessee Governor's Highway Safety Office released what has been viewed by some as an offensive advertising campaign using sexist language and themes (radio ads below, coasters and posters above).

"This whole advertising campaign is just one more example of Republicans being tone deaf regarding women. Women are not eye candy or trophies. The reality is that women represent half our population and it is ridiculous that they are being forced to spend their tax dollars on this offensive ad campaign.

Whether it's shutting down the Commission on Women's Health or the Women's Economic Council or killing Democratic legislation to enact equal pay for women, this is another example of Tennessee Republicans treating women as second class citizens.

Not only do they continue to showcase their demeaning attitudes towards women but also their inability to govern effectively.

Tennessee Democrats, as always, continue to work towards a government that treats everyone equally and functions effectively."
