Officials say that was the focus of the 4-day gathering here in Murfreesboro.

Rutherford County Fire & Rescue Chief Larry Farley is serving a president of the Middle Tennessee Fire Chiefs.

The Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department helped to host this major gathering and included visits of the local facilities.

Murfreesboro Chief Mark Foulks was honored for his role in hosting the event.

Chief Foulks continues to make improvements with Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue, including the construction of a new $5.7-million fire station 4 on Medical Center Parkway, next to the Stones River (see photo). This facility will house this city's new 100-foot aerial truck that will allow coverage of high-rise structures. In addition, the Special Operations Unit will also be stationed here, since it is adjacent to the Stones River.

Murfreesboro continues construction of the Doug Young Public Safety Training Facility on Bridge Avenue in the former Franklin Heights area.

The training facility will benefit more than public safety training. Murfreesboro residents and businesses could also reap benefits. Maintaining and upgrading training certifications of public safety personnel enhances the Insurance Services Office Class (ISO) rating, which can translate into lower property insurance premiums.

On WGNS broadcasts, Chief Faulks has spoken of improving Murfreesboro Fire & Rescues current ISO #2 rating to a #1 rating.

NewsRadio WGNS will let you know of any new ideas from the Fire Chiefs Association's meeting that is being considered by local emergency providers.
