Tennessee State Parks will host its annual Camp Out - an event geared towards teaching families the basic skills necessary to go camping on their own - on April 9 and 10.

Families are invited to nearby Cedars of Lebanon State Park in Wilson County for the weekend to learn what goes into planning a camping trip. Lessons will include setting up tents, cooking over a fire, beginner hiking, fireside stories, and more. Park staff will also be conducting several fun programs throughout the weekend for those participating in the camp.

"This is a great opportunity for families who have never camped before or who have but want to freshen up their skills," said Katie Wisniewski with Tennessee State Parks Junior Ranger Program. "Tennessee is blessed with amazing recreational areas that all visitors should feel comfortable using."

Camp Out is open to a maximum of six families that are new to camping and would like an easy introduction to this type of recreation. Children must be accompanied by a guardian.

The fee is $20 per family of four plus $10 for each additional family member. This includes all activities, meals and equipment check-out. The registration deadline is April 4.
