Murfreesboro is in the spotlight because of a new retail business that has a history that dates back to 1939. The 11,000th Dollar General Store will open in Murfreesboro on Saturday. The stores were founded by Cal Turner Sr. and his father J.L. Turner in Scottsville, Kentucky as J.L. Turner & Son, Inc.  Their descendant Cal Turner Jr., lives in nearby Brentwood. It wasn’t until 1968 that the company changed their name to Dollar General Corporation.

The new store is at 2144 North Thompson Lane.  Although the store has been doing business for about a week, the official ribbon cutting will be at 8:00 o'clock Saturday morning.  All through the day, there will be several NASCAR racing cars on display (see below), along with other unique displays.
