Wear those cowboy and cowgirl boots and hats to the School Resource Officers' 10th annual LoneStar Rodeo March 6-7 at Miller Coliseum at 304 W. Thompson Lane in Murfreesboro.

Rodeo acts include bareback riding, bull riding, bucking broncs and steer and calf roping events, said SRO Sgt. Bill West who coordinates the rodeo.

"Barrel racing is always a favorite," Sgt. West said. "The rodeo is a good family event. Proceeds help support the SROs and their school programs."

Advance tickets are on sale for $8 for children 12 and under and $10 for adults from any SRO or from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Sheriff's Office's Information Office at 940 New Salem Highway. Advance tickets will be on sale until 4 p.m., Thursday, March 5.

Tickets are available at Miller Coliseum's box office the afternoon of both shows. Tickets at the gate are $10 for children and $15 for adults.

The doors open at 6 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. each night. The show lasts about 2-1/2 hours. SRO calendars that are funded through county businesses and individuals will be given away.

Part of the proceeds allows special needs students from kindergarten through 12th grade in Rutherford County Schools and Murfreesboro City Schools to attend a Friday morning show.

"The idea came up after the first rodeo for special needs students who don't get to travel to many field trips for activities outside the school," Sgt. West said. "The SROs love to spend time with the students in their classrooms. This event is near and dear to our hearts."
