The Murfreesboro Noon Exchange Club is pleased to announce it will present the fifth annual Healing Field - Flags of Remembrance over Memorial Day weekend, May 25-27, 2013.

The Healing Field, located on Medical Center Parkway next to Belk at The Avenue, will feature 800 3-by-5 foot American flags displayed in a military style layout. Each flag can be sponsored for $30 in memory or in honor of a hero.

“In years past, the Healing Field has been filled with flags that are in memory and honor of those serving in the military,” said Rebecca Talley, event chairperson and assistant vice president for MidSouth Bank. “However, flags can be sponsored for any heroes in life, whether they are family members, friends or colleagues.”

Flag sponsors are encouraged to bring mementos or tags of loved ones to hang on the 8-foot flag poles displaying the flags that are made in the United States. Those interested in sponsoring a flag should do so early, so organizers can be sure that the flags carry the hero’s name on opening day.

“The purpose of the Healing Field is to remind everyone about the real meaning of Memorial Day,” said Talley. “Every year, we have people tell us how touched they are by our display, and that’s one of the reasons we are so proud to be able to offer it for the fifth time in 2013.”

The Field will open on the morning of Saturday, May 25, and closing ceremonies on Monday, May 27, will include patriotic music, prayer, the reading of the names of Tennesseans who have lost their lives in the War on Terror, the playing of Taps and a 21-gun salute.

Individuals who are interested in either sponsoring a flag or volunteering to assist with the event may call 615-641-0121. To pre-purchase a flag, please visit www.HealingField.org/Murfreesboro.
