The Rutherford Heart Walk is This Saturday

Hundreds of walkers will hit the streets to fight heart disease and stroke this Saturday at the American Heart Association's Rutherford Heart Walk, at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro.

Festivities begin at 8 a.m. and the Walk begins at 9. There are two routes: a regular 5K walk, and a Survivor Route at ¼ mile. The family-friendly event is free and open to the public. Donations are encouraged.

Festivities include areas for fitness and nutrition, kid zone, T shirt contest, tribute wall, signmaking, CPR training, health screenings and a survivor tent.

Special features of the festivities include the Saint Thomas Mobile Ministry, the Steam Bus from Discovery Center, an EMS unit demonstration, and a firetruck.

The Rutherford Heart Walk is a major fundraiser for the American Heart Association, allowing it to carry on its lifesaving work in Rutherford County. For more on the Rutherford Heart Walk, to make a donation or join a fundraising team: rutherfordheartwalk.org.

Funds raised go to American Heart Association-funded research, education and community health programs to fight the No. 1 and No. 5 health threats in America, heart disease and stroke.

Chairs of the event are Bob Gerard, Rutherford County executive of Fifth Third Bank, and Jennifer Williams, controller of Murfreesboro Medical Clinic.

Event emcee is Bob Mueller from WKRN News 2.

Noted vocalist Lou Galterio will sing the National Anthem.
