(SMYRNA) Four individuals were displaced after a fire destroyed their home. Smyrna Fire Department personnel were dispatched to a fire at 3464 Gambill Lane at 8:37 Thursday morning (11/7/2019). Four people inside the home were able to escape, but the family dog remained trapped inside of the structure.

Engine 1 and Service Company 1 were the first on the scene. Flames were visible in the front and side windows of the home. SFD began attacking the fire and were able to successfully rescue the family pet. Lt Justin Cross and Lt Brian Garsnett utilized a pet rescue breathing mask to resuscitate the dog. "I am extremely proud the actions of Lt Cross and Lt Garsnett," noted Smyrna Fire Chief Bill Culbertson. "We understand that pets are an important part of families and we are happy we have the equipment that allowed us to save this pet."

The Heart of Tennessee Chapter of American Red Cross is assisting the family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Captain Scott Byers, who oversees fire cause and origin.
