State Representative Mike Sparks (R-Smyrna) received an endorsement from the Tennessee Right to Life Political Action Committee (PAC) in the 49th District State House Race.
This endorsement is important to the Sparks campaign because pro-life supporters have historically backed conservative candidates at the polls.
"I am incredibly honored to receive Tennessee Right to Life's support and endorsement as I seek re-election this November," said Representative Sparks. "Over the years, I have fought to strengthen laws that protect Tennessee's unborn children, and I will continue these efforts. I appreciate the partnerships I have established with Tennessee Right to Life because I know they will continue to help us strengthen state laws that better protect future generations of our children."
During the 2018 legislative session, Representative Sparks supported passage of House Bill 2251. This measure aims at protecting the sanctity of life by eliminating taxpayer funding to facilities that perform elective abortions. It does not impact the availability of other critical health care services offered to Tennessee women.
Sparks also supported the Tennessee Infants Protection Act during the 110th Tennessee General Assembly. The measure prohibits abortions -- except in medical emergency -- after 24 weeks and requires testing to determine viability of an unborn child if a woman is at least 20 weeks pregnant. It also holds physicians who perform late-term abortions accountable for their actions.
Early voting is now underway and runs through Nov. 1. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6.
