Trick or treaters wearing elaborate and homemade costumes will collect candy during the annual Trunk or Treat Halloween event Monday, Oct. 31 at the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office.

Children up to age 12 will gather candy from 4 to 8 p.m. from Sheriff's Office employees, firefighters, paramedics and businesses at the Sheriff's Office at 940 New Salem Highway in Murfreesboro, said Sgt. Jimmy Cassidy from the Sheriff's Community Services Unit.

"Our purpose is to provide a safe place to trick or treat for families," Sgt. Cassidy said.

The Mounted Patrol Unit will show their horses and the SWAT team will display the Bearcat vehicle. Other emergency services will display an ambulance and fire engines.

Parents can buy supper from one of the vendors. One of the new vendors will be food from Prince's Hot Chicken truck from Nashville. Pizza Inn will serve pizza. Members of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Citizens Academy Alumni Association will sell apple cider and hot chocolate.

Vendors will showcase their businesses, including several Hispanic businesses that are joining the event this year.

Booth space is free but each vendor or community group is asked to bring candy for the children. People who wish to have a booth may register with Sgt. Cassidy at jcassidy@rcsotn.org or by calling 615-904-3019 by Thursday, Oct. 27.

The Sheriff's Explorers will help with parking near the entrance of the Sheriff's Office.
