The 2014 TSSAA State Cheerleading and Dance Championships will be held Nov. 15 at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in Murfreesboro. Dance competition begins at 8 a.m., and cheerleading competition will start at approximately noon.
This event brings in 1,200 athletes and more than 4,600 spectators to Rutherford County. Freshmen, small varsity, medium varsity, large varsity, coed varsity, and junior varsity divisions will compete for the title of state champions. TSSAA Cheerleading and Dance Championships have been hosted in Murfreesboro since 1998.
"We are excited to welcome over 100 cheerleading and dance teams and their families to Rutherford County," said Barbara Wolke, vice president of the Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau. "November is typically a down month for hotels. Hosting this event is a great opportunity to maximize occupancy in the area. An estimated 5,800 people will be staying in our hotels, shopping in our retail outlets and dining in our restaurants."
