Two Pedestrians Hit Friday Night--One Was Killed

(MURFREESBORO) Two adult pedestrians were struck by a passing car around 10:00 o'clock Friday (5/17/2019) night, while walking along Northwest Broad Street near West Clark Boulevard.

Murfreesboro Police Officer Amy Norville told NewsRadio WGNS that a 2003 Saturn S-13 coupe was traveling toward town on Broad Street when it hit a man and woman who were walking along the center grassy medium.

Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services transported both pedestrians to the ER at St Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

45-year old Julie Wilkerson of Smyrna was later pronounced deceased. 46-year old Jimmy Layhew, Jr of Nashville was then flown to Vanderbilt via Lifeflight helicopter. On Saturday (5/18/2019) he was listed in stable condition.

The driver of the car was 24-year old Steven Gavel. He was not injured in the crash.

The Murfreesboro Police Department's FACT Team (Fatal Accident Crash Team) is continuing the investigation. NewsRadio WGNS will tell you more as information is available.
