Two Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputies earned top honors Friday during graduation from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy’s Basic Police School, said Sheriff Robert Arnold.

Deputy Chris Beach earned the Legal Award for the highest academic average in the class of 74 students from Tennessee.

Deputy Beach received a $5,000 scholarship from Vice President Roland Colson of Bethel University’s College of Public Service.

Deputy Erik Yatuzis, who was class president, earned the Leadership Award from the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police. Lewisburg Police Chief Chuck Forbis presented the award.

“I am extremely proud of Deputy Beach for gaining the highest academic average and Deputy Yatuzis for his leadership,” Sheriff Arnold said. “These two deputies will bring those skills back to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.”

Other Sheriff’s Office deputies graduating from the 10-week training class were Deputy Lawson Royal and Deputy Billy Spray.
