Two Rutherford County Sheriff's Office employees remain on paid leave.

Public Information Officer Lisa Marchesoni confirmed on Thursday night that Administrative Chief Deputy Joe Russell and Det. Major Bill Sharp remain on administrative leave with pay, pending the outcome of investigations that were said to be underway as of April 24, 2015. Next week will mark the third week of paid leave for the two.

The original release from Detective Sargent Dan Goodwin suggested that due to the ongoing investigations, the sheriff's office will have no further comment on the matter in regards to their leave.

The controversy involving Russell is believed to be in regards to the JailCigs Company. Russell, Sheriff Arnolds next door neighbor, reportedly co-owns JailCigs and was said to have worked on company matters while at the Sheriff's office. JailCigs sells an electronic cigarette that is offered exclusively to county inmates. The company was allowed to sell the electronic cigarettes to inmates without any sort of a bid process. The company is also co-owned by Arnolds aunt and uncle John and Judy Vanderveer.

Meanwhile, Sharp was reportedly operating a business while at the Sheriff's Office. The business is called, "Sharp Training and Consulting." Post Contributor Sam Stockard wrote in an April 17, 2015 article, "Rutherford County Sheriff's Detective Maj. Bill Sharp sent dozens of emails to and from his sheriff's office account for a year and a half to operate a private training and consulting company -- many of them for sheriff's-sponsored events."
