Ultralight Plane Crash in nearby Coffee County

In nearby Coffee County, the Sheriff's Department received a call around 4:47 Sunday afternoon (10/16/2017) that an ultralight Sky Cycle crashed in the south end of the county. The 52-year old pilot was killed when the aircraft went down in the 2500 block of Prairie Plains Road in the Hillsboro community.

Emergency crews arrived quickly on the scene and discovered that Michael David Nelms died in the crash that occured about 3-blocks from his home. He was taken to the medial examiner's office in Nashville. The area was secured and an investigation is in progress.

Coffee County Sheriff Steve Graves says his department is working with the Federal Aviation Administration in the investigation.
