Since March 15th, close to 600,000 Tennesseans have filed for unemployment benefits. Out of that number, only 54% of those who filed have been approved and / or paid in the Volunteer State.

This past week, close to 23,000 Tennessee residents filed new unemployment claims.

Some good news - The number of those filing unemployment is going down weekly. The week of April 4th saw the highest number of unemployment claims in Tennessee with 116,141 new claims filed. Each of the weeks following April 4th saw significant drops in unemployment claims, which shows a continued downward trend in the number of those without jobs.
