(MURFREESBORO) Working together makes sense, $743,000 was saved by Rutherford and Cannon county residents through United Way's partnership with the FamilyWize prescription discount program. Reports show that $2.2 million was returned to Rutherford and Cannon counties through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. This year also saw the contributions of nearly $3 million in annual support.

2017-18 United Way Board Chair Andy Womack said, "United Way continues to expand services better serve people in our community. We are excited about continuing to be an important part of improving lives in Rutherford and Cannon counties."

Billy Bruce of UPS was recognized as Volunteer of the Year for the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties.

Additional recognition included Andy and Cherry Womack as recipients of The Witherspoon Award, and Redstone Federal Credit Union as recipient of the Community Impact Award. The Community Impact Award is evaluated on partnerships that advance the mission of United Way.

Rutherford County Government received the Innovation Award for their creative engagement with United Way and Tim Fallon of Nissan North America was named Employee Campaign Manager of the Year.

Parks received the Engagement Award for their outstanding participation in United Way volunteer events, and The Town of Smyrna received the Rise Award for their significant increase in giving.

The 2018-2019 incoming members for the United Way board of directors were also announced. They include Licensed Psychologist Dr. Ellen Slicker, Publix Super Markets' Richard Smith, and First Bank Mortgage's Matthew Stump
