Upcoming concert at MTSU Features Local Student Talent

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- MTSU's Hinton Hall will have room for plenty of student and community voices Sunday, March 1, at the annual "Opera to Broadway" concert featuring the MTSU Schola Cantorum, Middle Tennessee Choral Society and guest artists from the Nashville Opera.

The upcoming concert will begin at 4 p.m. March 1 in Hinton Hall inside MTSU's Wright Music Building, located at 1439 Faulkinberry Drive in Murfreesboro.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $12.50 for seniors and $10 for children 12 and younger and are available online at https://mtchoralsociety.org and at the door. MTSU students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with current IDs.

Raphael Bundage, professor of vocal performance in MTSU's School of Music and the Choral Society's music director/conductor, is guiding this MTSU and community concert.

This year's performance will include beloved music created by Giacomo Puccini, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, and Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein.

Concertgoers can expect arias from "Carmen," "Rigoletto" and "The Marriage of Figaro" as well as Broadway favorites from "My Fair Lady," "Beauty and the Beast," "Fiddler on the Roof" and more.

The local choral groups are welcoming these multi-award-winning guest soloists from Nashville Opera:

• Tenor Michael Anderson of New York City, a current Young Artist with Nashville Opera who holds both bachelor's and master's degrees from the Manhattan School for the Arts.

• Soprano Helen Huang of Portland, Oregon, a member of Nashville Opera's Mary Ragland Emerging Artist Program and a graduate of the New England Conservatory, the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester.

• Mezzo-soprano Kaylee Nichols of Dayton, Ohio, also a Ragland Emerging Artist from Nashville Opera and a McGill University alumna with a master's degree in opera and voice performance.

• Baritone Spencer Reichman of Austin, Texas, also a Ragland Emerging Artist from Nashville Opera with a Master of Music degree from Loyola University.

The Schola Cantorum comprises MTSU's best upper-division vocal majors and graduate students. The internationally recognized Choral Society includes top student vocalists alongside outstanding singers from the surrounding community.
