The City of Murfreesboro has officially turned over the old First Methodist Church building to a new owner. The property at the intersection of East College and North Church Streets was sold by the city to the developer for $1.8 million.

Under the sale agreement, the developer must keep the historic church bell tower and chapel in place that dates back 131 years.

The 2.48-acre city block went to a developer titled One East College, LLC. The developers include Nick Patel of Detroit, Michigan and Suri Ramanna, Nashville chairman and CEO of TRC Worldwide Engineering.

The buyers agreed to redevelop the historic structure into a community venue surrounded by mixed-use commercial office space, a national brand hotel, retail space, residential units, and a parking garage.
