One person was killed in Smyrna this Wednesday morning (9/28/16). The accident that left one victim deceased occurred on Sam Ridley Parkway near the Lowry Street exit ramp.

Smyrna Police say that all traffic lanes had to be closed for several hours and were re-opened around 1 pm.

Daniel E. Stephens, age 29, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash and his family has been notified. The driver of the other vehicle is identified as James McClung and he was not injured. Stephens was driving a Suzuki Forenza and McClung was driving a tractor-trailer truck for YRC Trucking.

The investigation is on-going but it appears that the Forenza crossed from the westbound lanes of Sam Ridley Parkway and entered the eastbound lanes directly in front of the tractor-trailer truck. Currently, it is unknown what caused Stephens' vehicle to enter the eastbound lanes of traffic.
