UPDATE: WGNS has more news on an early Thursday (7/27/2017) morning accident. The wreck occurred just before 2 AM on Interstate 840 about a mile before the Almaville Road Exit.

26-Year-old Erika Puffenbarger was driving into the Murfreesboro area when she apparently lost control and drove her mid-sized SUV off the roadway. After running off the road the vehicle flipped and rolled several times before coming to a stop in the median.

Puffenbarger was ejected from the SUV and then struck by an oncoming semi-truck. She was killed on the scene. The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigation shows that she was not wearing her safety belt.

The truck that struck the Bell Buckle woman failed to stop. Authorities are attempting to locate the driver of the big rig that was described as being a white truck with a white trailer.

Also in the vehicle were her three children: ages 10, 8 and 3. The 3-year-old was the only child that was buckled in, but was still injured. Both the 8 and 10-year-old children also had to be taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries is not known at this time, however they did survive the collision.

If you were in the area when the collision happened, you are encouraged to contact the THP at 615-232-2936.
